New EPBD – European Performance of Buildings Directive Requirements for lighting

The importance of dimmable lighting solutions with lighting control and energy and CO2 monitoring will continue to increase for lighting refurbishment (existing buildings) and new buildings!

What is the EPBD and how binding is it?

  • New EU directive 05/24 for the overall energy efficiency of buildings across all trades, also lighting (new and existing buildings), part of the EU's ‘Green Deal’ and ‘Fit for 55’ strategy *)
  • Lighting requirements in Article 13, paragraph 9, 10 and 12).
  • To be implemented by the Member States within 2 years in national building legislation, only then are the contents of the EPBD legally binding!
  • In addition, the requirements of the EPBD can also be applied in tenders by European group companies!
